 Background

In May 2006, with the financial backing of SEHO,  the first maternity hospital was setup in Bardera (Soomaali: Baardheere) in Gedo region of Somalia. It became obvious to the supporters of the hospital cause, that an organization was needed to further carry out the services this concerned group have started. After the rented facility for the hospital was completed, the group created an organization and it was registered in the state of Ohio, in the United States. The organization became SEHO.

Ever since mid 2006, SEHO has been providing educational, sanitation and health support in the form of financial, equipment, supplies and staff training. The education and training which SEHO gives are in the fields of health, agriculture and veterinary.

One of the best services SEHO has achieved so far is the delivery of safe medicines from US and Canada for the Bardera Maternity Hospital. These medicines are vitamins and supplements for women, general analgesics and various adult and children's medicines. Medicines are available at the pharmacy for the two centers on either bank of the Jubba River and both centers are part of the Bardera Maternity Hospital System which has services for prenatal, maternity, postpartum, and children's health services.

SEHO created collaborating environments for the Bardera Maternity Hospital (formerly East Bardera Mothers and Childrens Hospital) and Bardera Polytechnic College. These two centers devise and implement sound policies and mechanims to better manage services currently available in the community.

Other cities where SEHO supported health posts exist are in Abudwak (Galgadud Region), Hagar and Nasriyah (Lower Jubba Region).  Somali diaspora communities give tremendous support for SEHO's non-for-profit operations in all of these centers. The future goal of SEHO for these institutions is to be able to operate on their own or with little support, especially with financial support. The most well-established centers will somehow need continued support of some sort whether technical or otherwise.

SEHO Board of Directors

SEHO has board of directors whose members are comprised of officers who carry out day to day operations as well as advisory board members who are professionals and experts of various fields.
